California State PTA
and Parents Know the Answer
The California State PTA and the Pearson Foundation are giving parents in communities across the state of California new ways to share good ideas, through the Parents Know the Answer new media campaign.
For decades, the PTA has established a rich history of making a difference in communities across California, and in recent years, the opportunities to communicate messages about the PTA and education have grown exponentially; today, email, Facebook, and YouTube are often considered to be as effective as television in reaching the public – even more effective, in some ways.
Through the Parents Know the Answer new media campaign, the California State PTA and the Pearson Foundation are capturing parents’ voices and turning them into short public service announcements (PSAs) that parents can use for free to raise awareness about the mission and diversity of the PTA in their communities.
The PTA and the Pearson Foundation believe that the key to success for the Parents Know the Answer media campaign is action on the part of parents, who are being encouraged to take advantage of email and Facebook, as well as school websites and local television, to create short public service announcements that can be broadcast in a variety of ways. These 15- and 30-second announcements are designed to be easy to distribute – and California’s parents now have access to a roster of resources with easy-to-follow instructions on parentsknowtheanswer.org, allowing individuals to create their own Parents Know the Answer media campaigns locally.
The website features resources that allow parents to take action quickly through such features as “Five Fast Ways to Reach Out to Your Community,” along with informative videos and links to PTA membership information, best practices, and more.
