Literacy

The Pearson Foundation helps nonprofit organizations share books and literacy support with young people and local communities across the globe.

We’re sharing books we love, and helping teachers, parents, and great non-profit organizations ensure that young people are ready to read and learn.

We focus these efforts through We Give Books, our own digital initiative developed together with Penguin Books. We Give Books lets anyone with access to the Internet to put books in the hands of children who don't have them, simply by reading online.

No matter where they are, We Give Books readers can explore a growing digital library of great children’s books for free. In the process, they can also learn more about great literacy organizations that make a difference in local communities around the world. Reading at We Give Books helps raise lifelong readers and lifelong givers. The more you read, the more hardcover and paperback books we donate.

We Give Books is also one of the best places to take part in Jumpstart's Read for the Record, one of our first literacy partnerships. The Pearson Foundation is a founding partner of this annual effort to raise awareness about the important role that early literacy skills have in preparing young children for success. Since its inception in 2006, Read for the Record has engaged millions in communities across the United States while helping Jumpstart to raise millions of dollars for their essential work in classrooms year around.

Recently, we’ve introduced three new campaigns to We Give Books: Read for My School makes it possible for students to read together to secure books for their classrooms and libraries. The We Give Books ReadMobile and Family Book Nights programs deliver books and reading celebrations to schools and community organizations across the United States.
